A Sweet Tooth's Guide to Newmarket

Reading Time: 4 Minutes

Often daydream about flaky pastries, cinnamon rolls, or doughnuts? There is nothing better than a sweet treat when the clock hits 3pm, or if you’re anything like us, when it's 10am and you're due for a caffeine hit. From cafes filled with treats to ice cream shops, Newmarket is packed with sugary delights, ready to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Little & Friday

Begin your sugary adventure with Little & Friday. This store is filled with naughty little treats, and we can’t help but go back for more. Filled to the brim with freshly baked brioches, scones, tarts - you name it! If you’re struggling to pick something, their brioche scrolls are not to miss. With the flavours changing frequently, you’ll be a brioche connoisseur by the end of the month.

11 McColl Street

Daldang

Elevate your macaron experience by getting your hands on one of these treats. A bold twist on the traditional French macaron, Fatcarons are twice as big, twice as thick, and twice as delicious (if you ask us). Filled with flavoured cream nestled between delicately crisp shells, and sometimes even crumbed and caramelised. You may need to exercise self-control with the various flavours to pick from, but whatever you decide will be sure to fill every sugary need you had.

8/88 Broadway

Duck Island

They’ve been playing with flavours since 2015 and are constantly creating out-of-the-box flavours that hit the spot every time. If you play on the side of caution, they have Kiwi classics that we all know and love but, if you’re after more adventurous flavours your taste buds will be in for a frosty delight. And because no one likes missing out on ice cream, they have an extensive dairy-free & vegan range, so everyone gets to enjoy it.

2-8 Osbourne Street

Leafe Cafe

Leafe Cafe, tucked away in Westfield, is a small pocket of sweet treasure. Their in-house bakers cater to all things sweet, so their cabinet is brimming with freshly baked sweets. Their delicious slices (particularly their chocolate brownie) will have you craving more all week.

Luna Bakehouse

Specialising in croissants, you’ll feel transported to Paris. Although these aren’t a classic croissant, they often have a twist, whether it be filled with fruit compote or soft serve, you’ll never look back. Their unique croissants spread like wildfire across social media and since then have become a viral sweet treat for anyone visiting Newmarket. Luna has perfected a buttery, flaky croissant filled with a surprise, so if we are ever in doubt, we know that these sweet morsels will never let us down.

270 Broadway

Petal Cupcakes

Coffee and cupcakes are a match made in heaven, and when the afternoon slump hits, we can’t resist popping into this sweet wee store for a little pick me up. Baked fresh and topped with hand-piped icing, these babies are buttery smooth and bursting with flavour. Whether shared or eaten in secret, these cupcakes are a miniature masterpiece of sweetness.

8 Teed Street

Newbie Cafe

With a cabinet filled with treats, it’s impossible to leave with just one thing. From cakes and slices to doughnuts and meringues, you can find something no matter the mood you’re in. And even better, their sweet selection is constantly changing, so you can try something new with each visit.

Broadway

Daily Bread

They’re known for their savoury selection, but we know them for their sweet range. Their popular custard slice flies out the door, however, we will always have a soft spot for their hazelnut croissant. Twice baked and made with only the best NZ hazelnuts, these beat almond croissants any day.

8-10 Morrow Street

Krispy Kreme

If you're after something a bit simple but know will hit the spot, Krispy Kreme is exactly what you are after. Nothing beats an original glazed doughnut. Fluffy and light coated in sweet sticky goodness, treat time has never been sweeter. It doesn’t stop there, if you prefer a flavoured doughnut then their endless options will have you humming and harring about what to pick.
