Unlock Your Best Skin Ever, with Zero Downtime

Reading Time: 5 Minutes

It's extremely rare to find a new treatment or product in the skincare industry, a sector which is always promoting a brand new treatment and way to solve all of our issues – particularly a treatment that fundamentally improves your skin with minimal downtime. But the results seen by the BioRePeel is truly making waves in the industry, and Greta Ryan from Skin Ritual was quick to jump on this impressive treatment and bring it to New Zealand, making Skin Ritual the first clinic in NZ to have the treatment available.

Skin Ritual is known for offering gold standard treatments and ensuring their customers feel confident to achieve their best skin ever, and this new treatment is no different. A quick search of before and after photos have got us completely hooked, the powerful little treatment seemingly offers a myriad of benefits, with minimal to zero downtime.

We caught up with Greta to ask some important questions when considering this treatment and how the process works.

N. Can you take us through the core of what the BioRePeel is?

It’s a high potency chemical peel (35% TCA), with a key point of difference - minimal to zero downtime, something previously unheard of for a TCA peel.

For those who don’t know, TCA (trichloroacetic acid) is a peeling agent that works by breaking down keratin, the main protein in human skin cells - it’s an incredible product for working on texture, pigmentation, lines, and even acne - but it usually causes a fair amount of irritation and downtime.

N. What are the main benefits of this treatment?

BioRePeel works on multiple pathways in the skin, and aside from the TCA, contains a cocktail of actives including lactobionic acid, GABA, salicylic acid, and a plethora of amino acids. The treatment has many benefits - it refines skin texture, softens lines, treats breakouts/acne, and reduces pigmentation to name a few. I rarely say this, but this is a treatment where you will start to see benefits pretty immediately (within 24 hours of treatment).

N. How is it possible to make a real difference to our skin, without the downtime?

The truth is, downtime from a peel (flaking, sensitivity, redness) - is often not a necessity to achieve the end result, but rather a side effect of what was done. Until now, skin barrier impairment and subsequent sensitivity and discomfort, were just an unavoidable side effect of doing a TCA peel.

With BioRePeel, the formula contains a unique lipophilic component that immediately restores the skin barrier during treatment - essentially allowing you to skip the sensitivity, redness, and discomfort that would normally be experienced with TCA, while still getting all the benefits.

N. When you say little to no downtime, what can we expect after a treatment?

After a BioRePeel, your skin will feel and look calm. No redness, no irritation - no-one would know you’d had anything done! In the days following, you can expect to feel some tightness in your skin, and some people will have a small amount of flaking skin - but with zero sensitivity. By day 7, your skin will be smoother, brighter, and more even. Times that by four (the recommended course) and you’ll be glowing!

N. Is this treatment suitable for sensitive skin?

It’s not suitable for those with rosacea, or hyper-sensitive skin - but often we find that people who believe they have sensitive skin, are in fact suffering from skin barrier impairment, which is easily fixed. Most people can do BioRePeel, it’s a very skin-friendly treatment.

N. How many treatments would the average person need?

Four treatments at 7-12 day intervals is the official recommendation from BioRePeel - but I tend to find four treatments at 10-12 days is perfect.

N. Is there anything I need to avoid in between treatments to ensure the best results?

In between BioRePeel treatments, you would pause all active skincare - this is to allow your skin to recover and prevent overstimulation. That means no retinol, no AHA/BHAs, no vitamin B or C - just cleanser, moisturiser, and sunscreen.

N. Are there any ways we can amplify the results?  Or products should we use at home to support the treatment?

Absolutely - for the more resilient skin, we can combine a BioRePeel with dermaplaning (an exfoliating treatment that removes the uppermost layer of dead skin cells, and any fluffy facial hair along with it), or HydraFacial (also an exfoliating treatment, but HydraFacial is more focused on removing congestion from the skin, and treating breakouts). By removing the outermost layer of dead skin cells first, we allow the BioRePeel to penetrate more effectively and evenly into the skin. For sensitive skin though, I’d recommend to try BioRePeel on its own first.

N. How do we get started?

Book in a free skin consultation with one of our experienced skin team - we’ll assess your skin, discuss your goals, and determine whether or not you’d be a good candidate for BioRePeel.
