2022 – That’s a Wrap.

As 2022 rapidly draws to a close, the COVID roller coaster ride of the past two years, seems to have transitioned into an economic dodgem ride. We know COVID is not over, but we have a much greater understanding of how to manage it better. However the economic headwinds will make for an interesting 2023. Plus it’s an election year – and they are always fun.

Some of the pressures facing our businesses have eased a little, however some supply chain issues still prevail, and labour shortages exist across the board. Some sectors, in particular hospitality, are still facing the brunt of this pressure with many yet to resume normal trade and service levels. Please be mindful of this if things don’t run as smoothly as normal – especially in hospitality and retail businesses. As has been widely reported crime has been an issue across NZ, and sadly Newmarket has not been immune. Wellington was slow out of the blocks to respond, but we welcome the recent focus and attention on the security issues facing businesses. We have invested heavily in our own security this year and in early 2023 we will have some exciting announcements to make.

Despite the tumultuous world we are in a multitude of brands have voted with confidence in Newmarket and opened new offices, cafes, restaurants, gyms, yoga studios, stores – and  established flagships and/ or relocated to new and bigger sites in the precinct. Here is a quick summary of some of the openings and movements over the past year.

Anytime Fitness; Arte Della Pasta; Asuwere; Bella; Body Catalyst; BYD; Coach; ECCO new Broadway Flagship store; Eden Noodles; FABRIC; French Country; Giltraps - The Car Store; Golden Goose; Gucci; Interior Warehouse; Lisa Hoskin; Lululemon; Movenpick new Broadway Flagship; New World on Nuffield Street; Olivia Cashmore; Pastarita; PB Tech on Broadway; Reece Bathroom Showroom Broadway Flagship; Robomate; Strong; Supertub Laundromat; Teaser; and Torpedo7 Bike Store on Broadway.

Plus @BroadwayCrossing has seen a flurry of new pop ups including Designer Boutique; Hine; Masala Bazaar; Vintage Land; and World Vision Smiles.

In the early New Year we look forward to welcoming Buono Italian Deli in Morrow Street; a premium menswear brand into Kent Street; My Fried Chicken in York Street; Catfe Mao on Broadway; a bunch of new luxury stores at Westfield and more boutiques on Nuffield Street.

All in all it has been a successful year for Newmarket. We are on track for our best year in recorded history, and that is thanks to all of you!

On behalf of the Newmarket team, our Board, and all of our businesses and employees, we extend our most heartfelt thanks once again for your continued support of the precinct this year. We know you have many choices for places to go for health & fitness, hospitality, entertainment or retail therapy, so we are always so grateful whenever you choose to do those things here, in Newmarket.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and very happy Christmas and New Year.

See you here soon!
