Jewellery Gifting with Michael Hill

Reading Time: 4 Minutes

As we get well into the gifting season, we are absolutely spoilt for choice on what to give our loved ones this Holiday season. Jewellery is a wonderful gift to give, it's personal, sentimental and can have a special meaning attached to it. Although it can be difficult to choose the right piece to gift someone, even if you know them well! We talk to one of Michael Hill's diamond experts Maria Then for some top tips when it comes to picking a great present, for a loved one, or even for yourself!

•   What are some of the key things to look for when choosing a diamond piece?

My two most important tips for choosing a diamond piece are that: 1. you love it, and 2. that it’s well-made. Diamonds are, of course a special purchase, so you want to choose something you’ll wear and treasure for a long time to come. Don’t focus too much on trends, and go for something that suits your personal style. If it’s a ring, take the time to ensure you pick the right fit. Our diamond jewellery is crafted to be timeless and to be treasured for many years to come.

• Would you recommend a diamond bracelet, necklace or ring?

Diamond tennis bracelets are the biggest jewellery trend right now, and they’re also one of the most timeless styles – so you can’t go wrong with a tennis bracelet for yourself or as a gift. At Michael Hill, you can find the most classic diamond line styles, through to our new pieces with added interest in the way of pear shape or rounded settings, and mixed diamond cuts. You can also go for a fine piece with a half to one carat of diamonds or a luxurious statement piece with up to 10 carats of diamonds.

•  What is the most flattering ring shape?

The most flattering ring shape is really a personal choice. The best way to find the one you love is to try on a range of styles and shapes. You can also change up the shape of your bridal rings and create a personalised look by stacking keepsake bands around your engagement ring – such as V-shaped diamond bands which elongate the finger. These can not only serve as wedding and eternity bands, but create a stacked effect and a flattering overall look.

•  How do you know if you’re a silver or gold jewellery wearer?

Again, this really comes down to personal taste. You can choose your favourite metal, or to find out which is most flattering, try on pieces and see what you like best against your skin. Of course, you also don’t have to choose - you can have both!

• What are your thoughts on mixing metals, and what are some tips on styling mixed metals?

I love mixing metals! The jewellery layering trend is perfect for this. You can mix and match chains in different metal colours, and mix your textures as well for a playful look. Or, style a multicolour ring stack for a trending look you can make your own.

•  What is a fail-safe gift to get someone that they are just about guaranteed to like?

Personalised gifts are always the best choice, as it lets your loved one know you chose something specifically for them. Our new birthstone jewellery is perfect, as are our engravable jewellery styles which you can add a special message to. Other personal gift ideas include initials, lockets, and zodiac jewellery.
