Healthy hair this summer with Chloe Zara

Reading Time: 4 Minutes

Embrace the summer sun knowing your hair is well looked after.

We caught up with Chloe Zara Munro, owner and entrepreneur of Chloe Zara Hair, to unveil secrets for protecting your hair, products we need to be using and the best ways to maintain healthy hair. Along with being a new-time mum, Chloe has continued to grow her brand into a reputable business for all things haircare. With a cult following, there's no one more qualified to teach us about maintaining sun safety for our hair.

Can you give us a little rundown on Chloe Zara and how it came to be today?

After hairdressing for almost two decades, I knew I wanted to create a bio-led, natural haircare range. When I was working in the salon I found there was a gap in the market and a real need for a range of New Zealand made products that truly focused on building the overall health of both the scalp and hair.

Chloe Zara Hair has a unique bond of Green Beauty Science for unparalleled hair health. I took inspiration for Chloe Zara Hair from skincare practices, recognizing the importance of treating the scalp with the same care as our skin. I really believe that a healthy scalp is the foundation for beautiful, vibrant hair.

We all know about the detrimental effects of the sun on our skin, but how does it similarly affect our hair?

The sun can cause many damaging effects to our hair, as it weakens your hair’s protein structure. You will notice strands will become dry, brittle and knotty, which can ultimately lead to breakage. If you colour your hair the sun can depilate the colour resulting in it fading rapidly.

What are some easy steps to achieve and maintain healthy hair?

  • To give your hair the strength and resilience it needs during these harsh summer months I would highly recommend using a hair mask for ultimate hydration.
  • Use a leave-in conditioning spray to detangle any knots, reduce frizz and protect the hair from sun and heated styling tools.
  • Incorporate a leave-in treatment into your hair routine to strengthen, nourish, and soften the hair.

What products from the Chloe Zara Hair range should we all look to use this summer?

Glossifying Hair Mist

This is a summer hair essential! This product is 100% natural and clinically proven to protect hair from harsh UV rays and heated styling tools. This leave-in conditioner will instantly detangle knots, control frizz, help prevent hair breakage, and provide high gloss and unparalleled shine. It can also be applied before and after outdoor activities such as swimming in the sea or pool.

Silk Hair Balm

Our Silk Hair Balm is a rich, repairing, and smoothing hair mask which delivers maximum hydration due to its vitamin-rich formulation. Infused with Kakadu Plum, Cacay Seed and Sweet Almond Oil, the Silk Hair Balm rejuvenates and softens hair, while adding elasticity and shine.

Hair & Body Perfume Oil

Our hero product, and my favourite, is our Hair and Body Perfume Oil. This product is full of vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. By using intentional nutrients this works to protect our hair against heated tools, along with UV rays. It really is a multi-use and everyday product as it strengthens, nourishes, and softens the hair. It also smoothes frizz and reduces split ends leaving a beautiful light scent and a glossy, silky finish.

Side tip: You can also use this on your skin for nourishment, perfume, and hydration!

Finally, can you give us 3 top tips to protect our hair this summer?

  1. The easiest way is to incorporate intentional hair care products into your summer hair ritual. Try using a hair mask, weekly or fortnightly and always apply product after washing your hair to prep and protect it for the day ahead.
  2. If you can, try to let your hair air dry naturally to give it a break from heated styling tools.
  3. Always wear a hat while in direct sunlight! This will not only protect strands but also your scalp.
