BLUNT x Auckland Museum celebrate 125 years of Kate Sheppard

Reading Time: 2 Minutes

In celebration of 125 years of the Women's Suffrage Movement, Auckland War Memorial Museum has teamed up with Wellington Museum and leading New Zealand umbrella company (based in Newmarket), BLUNT to create a Kate Sheppard signature umbrella.

The women's suffrage movement of the 1890's saw Kate Sheppard leading the charge in New Zealand, making New Zealand the first country in the world to give women the right to vote. Sheppard also inspired women's suffrage movements all around the world - her inspiration has continued for 125 years, with two of the country's most prominent museums collaborating together to create an entire Kate Sheppard range. Including not only the BLUNT umbrellas but also a limited edition silk scarf, lens cloth and tote bag.

Only a limited number of silk scarves and Kate Sheppard signature BLUNT umbrellas will be made, so it will be a well sought-after collector’s item.

BLUNT have produced a number of specially designed umbrellas by well-known NZ Street Artist FLOX and Fashion Designer Karen Walker.

A portion of the sales of the range of Kate Sheppard products will go to the National Council of Women New Zealand to help continue championing gender equality into the future. A perfect way to celebrate Suffrage Day on Wednesday 19th September.
