A Day in the Life of Saben's Roanne Jacobson

Reading Time: 3 Minutes

We caught up with Roanne Jacobson, founder of Saben, to see how she spends a day in her life. Not only is Roanne an entrepreneur, but she also seamlessly juggles the demands of her thriving business alongside the responsibilities of being a devoted and busy mother.  Founded in 2002, Saben has since become a leading name for luxurious leather handbags and accessories.

7AM My morning routine revolves around getting my teenage boys out the door for school. I also have to wrangle my husband Jules and our family dog, Storm. I take her for a walk before I start my day. It gives me an opportunity to focus on what will probably be a full and busy day ahead.

9AM I head out the door but not before choosing which bag I carry with me. Do I need just the essentials? Coco will do. Or do I need my computer, notebooks, the whole nine yards? If that’s the case, my Tilbury Tote has to come along for the ride too. Or is it a double bag day so I can get everything to work and then carry light for meetings?

11AM Today I’m visiting two of our boutiques and a stockist. The first stop is Saben on Teed St in Newmarket to meet with the team, chat to customers and find out which pieces they love this season. Then I’m heading into Westfield to catch up with the Flo&Frankie team, check their stock levels, zhuzh the merchandising and get any customer feedback from the manager. After this, it’s time to re-caffeinate at Altezanno and grab lunch from &Sushi before making our way to a business development meeting at our newest boutique at Auckland International Airport.

New Season styles: Giselle Braid and Winona Chambray, arriving instore Friday 8th September.

3PM Back at Saben HQ, we have fortnightly WIP meetings with our Australian wholesale agent, getting updates on deliveries, new clients and stockists and finding out all that’s happening on the other side of the Tasman.

3.30PM By this time, our Marketing Manager is usually doing the rounds with a box of biscuits so I’m forced to stop and take a moment to breathe, have a cuppa and finish off my ‘to-do’ list for the day.

New Season Style: Odile Chambray arriving instore Friday 8th September.

5PM I try to practice what I preach and enjoy some work-life balance by getting out the door as close to 5 as possible so I can get home to enjoy an evening with my sons.

8PM After dinner I usually sit down and watch an hour of tv with my husband who tells me off for checking my emails late into the night.

9:30PM I am very strict with my skincare routine and am a devotee to Dermalogica so when I’m winding down from the day, I embrace my routine of cleanse, tone, moisturise and finish off with retinol. By then, I’m ready to curl up with my latest book.
