A Day in the Life of May Chen & Enna Ye of Thea Matcha

Reading Time: 4 Minutes

We catch up with kiwi cousins May and Enna of popular matcha brand, Thea. Thea matcha is available at Luna Bakehouse and The Candyshop so head into Newmarket and try it yourself!

6am Enna: Earlybird catches the worm! I’m up and catch up on news first, then my face routine. After that I start my morning with first harvest matcha tea -  today’s tool of choice is a bamboo whisk. I love using it to manifest a calm and productive day. I do some stretches and start to plan my to-do list.

7am May: I start my day with some deep breaths and meditation, couple of stretches and off to make my morning matcha. Feeling like I need some collagen as my nails have been a bit weak, I love this iced with milk.

7.30am May: An important part of my day is changing out of home to outside clothes. It completely changes my mindset and styling clothes is an absolute passion of mine. Today i’m wearing my Maggie 01 Singlet in cream with straight leg white jeans and an op-shopped green striped XL blouse with some cosy squishy cloud slippers.

8am: We get to the office and talk about what we have done this week, what we want to do in the upcoming week and what kinds of marketing and content we will do over the month. Notion has become our favourite online tool to organise ourselves and keep tabs on everything.

8.30am Time to pack some matcha - we had a busy week for orders. 30g premium matcha and glass straws have been super popular. Next we check on café and retailer orders and pack these up ready to be shipped out with the rest. Every order comes with a handwritten note so Enna will normally prepare the notes and shipping while May will pack the orders.

11am Time to unpack some exciting new stock that has come in! This is always a highlight of our day. We open up all the boxes and count to ensure stock has been received correctly and do our usual strict quality checks.

12pm Lunchtime - We’re eating dumplings with chilli sauce today made by Enna and her mum. Yum! Enna often films these for her TikTok @cookwithenna

12.30pm We have a new collection of glass ware which is always super popular, so we start planning how we want to shoot these and will bring out our props and start playing around with what the vibe could be. We love getting to be creative.

1pm May goes to pick some fruit and flowers and style the shoot, Enna is preparing the lighting and the camera. We switch between photography and styling roles, which makes the process really fun as we throw ideas at each other all day long.

4pm We’re done with the shoot! Now to clean everything. (Luckily dishwashers exist and we no longer have to listen to our parents and handwash it to save water.. don’t tell them!) Enna will edit the best shots and May will load the product pages on the website - new product alert!

6pm We both head home.

6.15pm Enna: Bosco (my mini schnauzer), needs his evening walk plus it adds to my daily exercise. After that, I’m cooking an easy dinner before checking on some other client projects I’m working on.

7pm May: I turn on lofi-jazz instrumentals on YouTube and jump on Xero to do some upkeep with our finances. I have another full-time job so I will run over what I’ve done that week and plan some to-do tasks.

9pm Enna: I wind down with my fiance to watch a show, at the moment that’s House of the Dragon to wind down. Bosco loves to snuggle up with us on the couch. My favourite way to unwind.

9pm  May: The new Omar Apollo tiny desk is out so I have to watch it and relax with art projects in my bed.
