Your guide to Teed Street

Your guide to Teed Street

Newmarket is well-known for its boutique-lined streets and within the fashion mecca you’ll find New Zealand’s top designers, amongst art galleries, design and homeware stores, and food options to suit every taste.  With its beautifully upgraded streetscape, Teed Street has a plethora of options, from shopping to eating and everything in between. Pedestrian friendly and expansive tree-lined footpaths create a bustling hub right in the heart of Newmarket.

One of our favourite coffee spots is Teed Street Larder, with an incredible offering of cabinet food and a sunny courtyard, the Larder is ideal for a relaxing lunch break or catch up with friends. If you look closely, you’ll also spot a life-like nature mural on the side of the building, by artist Jonny4higher. Before setting out to peruse the shops we highly recommend popping into Paneton Bakery for one of their famous pastries, or pick a loaf from their aromatic selection of freshly made breads. It is hard to go past the colourful and indulgent offering at &Sushi, well-known as one of the most ‘Instagrammable’ lunch spots in Newmarket, along with Bambina just across the road. If a sweet treat is on the mind, Petal Cupcakes is an indulgent little spot revered for its decadent cupcakes with an icing overload. Our top flavour pick is easily Salted Caramel. For Sunday Yum cha, we can’t go past Pearl Garden and we recommend getting in early, as you’ll find the restaurant booming on weekends – insider tip, it’s hard to beat their delicious prawn dumplings.

If international luxury brands are what you’re after, be sure to pop into the incredible boutiques of Teed Street. With Muse, Scarpa and Edit. not only offering a wide range of highly coveted designer garments and accessories, but each also offering a breath taking store fit-out that will be sure to give you some major interior inspiration as well.  If local brands are more your style, kiwi icons Kate Sylvester, Taylor, Moochi, Ruby, Lonely and many more are stand-out shopping destinations that line Newmarket’s most popular boutique-laden street. In addition to the plethora of boutique retail offerings in Teed Street, Michael Holmes Premium Eyewear offers a dynamic range of international eyewear designers. And if you have bespoke in mind, Belloro Fine Jewellery offer handcrafted pieces for that something or someone special.

If gifting or homewares are on the cards, pop into Isabel Harris and explore their beautiful range of luxury soaps, candles and gifts. Just short walk away, you’ll find Tony Sly Pottery, with an extensive range of beautifully handmade ceramics and pottery to adorn your home. Madder & Rouge offer a wide range of linens and soft furnishings sourced from around the world and Allium Interiors is the home of innovative ideas and inspiring interior design, with a dreamy selection of fabrics and wallpapers from the likes of Designers Guild and Christian Lacroix on offer. If modern and contemporary furniture is your style, Kartell is one of our go-tos with iconic collections of designer plastic furniture and lighting. We highly recommend a visit to Cartier for any floristry needs on Teed street, they are renowned for incredible bouquets that are bespoke to suit any occasion.

Alongside shopping and eating, Teed Street is also home to one of Auckland’s oldest and most reputable dental clinics, The Newmarket Dental Group, which has been operating in Teed Street since 1928.

Have you seen the brightly coloured egg-shaped ‘Knock Knocks’ on Teed Street? A series of 9 colourful and interactive artworks by artist Seung Yul Oh, that extend onto Osborne Street, integrating street art into the design of the street.

An area always bustling with activity is Newmarket’s Asian Food Plaza, a covered alleyway located between Teed & Kent Streets – here you will find fresh produce, fish, meats and a variety of Asian specialty grocery stores. This is a spot known amongst many locals and we recommend you try the Food Court for some authentic Asian fare.

With a range of cafes & eateries, along with some of Auckland’s best shopping options from home interiors, to top fashion boutiques, Teed Street will satisfy most of your needs in one trip, before perusing the rest of Newmarket’s streets.
