The humble scone really is one of life’s simple pleasures. There aren’t many things that compare to a fresh-out-of-the-oven scone served with lashings of butter; whether it be date, cheese, or something slightly more quirky. Newmarket is a scone-lovers trove with several of our favourite cafes baking them daily. So, when you’re next on the hunt for scones, here is a list of Newmarket cafes and their specialty flavours.
Serving up scones baked by Scratch Bakers, the lemon and blueberry scone is on a whole other level to any sweet scone we have tasted before. A buttery, dense texture, with sugar crusted almonds baked on top… have we sold you yet? If these sweet morsels aren’t available, their spinach and feta scones are also pretty darn delicious too.

If you’re in the market for a BIG scone that is still packed full of goodies then Massimo is your cafe! With a cabinet filled with freshly baked goods, their scones are a real stand out. More often than not, Massimo has both a savoury and sweet scone available – and we can’t recommend them highly enough!

Renowned for their delicious and gram-worthy doughnuts, Little and Friday’s scone game is also very strong. They have a variety of flavours constantly on rotation and all equally irresistible, however we do have a soft spot for their gigantic cheese scone, lightly spiced with cayenne pepper or their blueberry and coconut scone which is vegan friendly (you won’t suspect it in the slightest!).

A Newmarket hot spot for corporates by week and foodies by weekend, Newbie’s cabinet is always chocka full of amazing slices, salads, muffins… and of course what we are here for, scones! A classic done oh so well is their date scone. They have perfected the scone to date ratio, with just the right amount of sweetness.

A firm favourite for a killer coffee, L’affare is also home to a pretty decent scone. Either sweet or savoury, both options are packed full of goodies and taste even more scrummy when put through the toastie machine. Our pick, and @sconequeen’s pick, is the date & orange scone… perfecty spiced and sweetened!
Scone and a coffee, name a more iconic duo?! Leafé Café inside Westfield has us covered with their $7 combo. The cheese scones here are absolute winners – fluffy and flavoured to perfection, ask for it heated with butter and you will be in scone heaven!

The Italians really can do no wrong when it comes to cuisine, Nonna proving this with their scones alongside a delectable fresh pasta bar. If it isn’t quite close enough to lunch to eat bowl of pasta, Nonna’s date or spinach and feta scones are the perfect option paired with a L’affare coffee – Bella!

Tasca has nailed the savoury scone brief with their moreish feta, spring onion and herb scone. These baked morsels are the first to fly out the door in the mornings, so best be in nice and early to nab yourself a delicious snack.
