Where to find Newmarket's best croissants

Reading Time: 3 Minutes

Soft, flaky, and perfectly shaped, the French undoubtedly knew what they were doing when they introduced croissants to the world. Whether covered in almonds or filled with ham and cheese, the versatile pastry will always be there for you when you need a little pick-me-up.

That being said, Newmarket is home to arguably some of the best croissants in Auckland, and we’d love to let you in on where to find them.

Luna Bakehouse

Recently opened on Remuera Road, Luna Bakehouse has quickly become a hit with locals due to its French pastries made with an Asian-fusion flare. Created from scratch from 4am daily, customers will find a range of delectable croissants with flavours like matcha, blueberry and classic almond. Each one as good as the last and perfect with a cup of Luna’s freshly brewed Kokako coffee.

Daily Bread

We’ve searched high and low for a tasty ham and cheese croissant, but nowhere seems to do them better than Daily Bread. Using free-range New Zealand ham, melted cheese, and just the right amount of mustard, this is one of our go-to lunchtime meals! Freshly made and with just the right amount of flakiness, this tasty devil had to make its way onto our list.

L'Atelier du Fromage

Known mainly for its delicious cheese and wine, L'Atelier du Fromage also has a selection of freshly baked goods on offer. If you're a bit of a sweet tooth and in search of something slightly different, we highly recommend giving the apricot croissant a try. Sweet but not too sweet, and fantastic with a slab of butter, we love this one for a Monday morning treat.

5 McColl Street

Newbie

With an extensive menu and colourful cabinet, Newbie is easily one of our favourite cafes in Newmarket. Each time we visit there's something new to excite us, but it is the custard almond croissant that is the real star of the show. With an exterior crusted in almondy goodness, and a center oozing with creamy custard, you can tell this one has been made with love.

Leafe Café

Leafe Café is well known for its killer brunches, but its takeaway pastries, including the ham, cheese and tomato croissant are well worth trying too. If you’re spending the day shopping at Westfield Newmarket, make sure to stop here to try one for yourself.

Café Monet

Tucked away in a sunny courtyard on Remuera Road, Café Monet is one of our favourite spots for brunch. Whether you’re ordering from the menu or picking something from the cabinet, they never fail to disappoint, especially with their croissants. Flaky, soft and freakishly consistent, these bad boys are a must-try!
