Try Newmarket's top mushroom dishes

Reading Time: 3 Minutes

When it comes to mushrooms, the opportunities are endless. Whether you use them as a substitute for meat, blend them into a soup or enjoy them with a sprinkle of pepper on toast, the tasty vegetables can work with just about any dish. And as much as we love to add the flavoursome fungi to our meals at home, ordering creamy mushrooms at the local café is just undeniably more satisfying.

Newbie - Creamy Mushroom Gnocchi

Combining arguably two of the best foods to exist, pasta and mushrooms, Newbie’s Creamy Mushroom Gnocchi dish is next-level delicious. Whether it’s the fluffy homemade gnocchi or the mushroom medley lathered in a creamy garlic sauce, we can’t quite decide which is more magical. Topped with spinach, tomato, chickpea, and pine nuts, this delectable dish makes for the perfect lunch or dinner.

The Candy Shop – Creamy Mushrooms

Tucked away on Osborne Street, The Candy Shop has become a well sought-after destination due to its bold, unique menu, however, it’s the creamy mushrooms on toasted focaccia that has us lining up for brunch. Coated in balsamic and Grana Padano cheese, this would have to be one of our favourite takes on the classic creamy mushroom, especially when paired with a poached egg.

Leafe Café - Truffle Mushroom French Toast

Yes, you read that correctly. Truffle Mushroom French Toast. Now, whilst the majority would typically associate French Toast with bananas, maple syrup, and berries, Leafe Café’s French Toast with truffle mushrooms will have you switching up your order for the foreseeable future. Made with brioche, mascarpone cream, fresh herbs, and Grana Padano, the combination just works and resolidifies why (in our opinion) mushrooms are the elite vegetable.

Nonna - Crema di Funghi

We couldn’t have a list of mushroom dishes without including a creamy tagliatelle, and this one from Nonna is divine. Creamy mushrooms, or as the Italians call it, ‘Crema di Funghi’, is one of the best comfort foods and works wonders for the immune system. Not only are mushrooms low in sodium and calories, but they are also a rich source of fibre, protein and antioxidants.

White + Wong’s – Wild Mushroom Dumplings

If you’re a dumpling fanatic, look no further. The Wild Mushroom Crystal Skin Dumplings from White + Wong’s are probably some of the best dumplings we have ever had the privilege of devouring. Mixed with goji berry and coriander and coated in a teriyaki glaze, it is near impossible to stop eating them once you’ve started.

Something & Social - Mushroom Arancini Balls

Perfect as an afternoon snack or an entrée before dinner, Something & Social’s mushroom arancini balls are well-worth trying. With a golden, crunchy outside and mushroom-filled centre, these go down perfectly with a glass of red wine after a long, hard day.
