Sweat Less, Train Smarter at Fu/nis EMS Training

Reading Time: 4 Minutes

Let’s be honest - while many of us love the idea of working out, finding the time to hit the gym several times a week can be a challenge. That's where fu/nis EMS training can help! Making it easier than ever for busy professionals and fitness enthusiasts to get an effective workout in just 20 minutes.

We sat down with Catrina, the founder of fu/nis and a pioneer of EMS training in New Zealand, to learn more about what EMS training is and what makes it so unique.

Let’s start with the basics - what is fu/nis EMS Training?

In a nutshell, fu/nis EMS Training is a full-body workout that uses Electro Muscle Stimulation (EMS) to activate your muscle fibres more efficiently than conventional exercises. We provide all the gear you need and in just 20 minutes, EMS training delivers the benefits of a 90-minute strength session at the gym. It’s a powerful form of strength and resistance training, which integrates cardio-metabolic aspects to support different fitness goals.

What makes EMS training different from a traditional gym workout?

First of all, it’s so much faster! Our sessions are only 20 minutes. Our members are usually in and out within 30 minutes, making it an ultra-efficient solution for even the busiest lifestyles. Unlike traditional workouts that rely on lifting weights or high-impact movements, EMS training uses small, controlled electrical impulses to stimulate your muscles. This allows for deep muscle activation without straining the joints. It’s incredibly effective, engaging up to 90% of muscle fibres in every session. As a comparison, when you lift weights at the gym you typically activate only 30–50% of your muscle potential at a time.

Who benefits the most from EMS training?

I'm not just saying this but everyone can benefit from this type of training because it is highly individualized. Each workout is tailored to your needs so even if you are training alongside someone else, the intensity is adjusted to your level. That said, most of our members are people juggling careers, families and social lives. Some already do Pilates, yoga or gym workouts and use EMS as an addition to their routine. Others use it as a stepping stone into fitness, especially if they’ve struggled to stay consistent with traditional workouts.

What are the key benefits of EMS training?

There are multiple benefits so I have popped them in a list to make it easier;

  • Time efficient - just 20 minutes, once or twice a week, is enough.
  • Full-body muscle activation – Up to 90% of your muscle fibres are engaged.
  • Joint-friendly – No heavy weights, making it perfect for those with past injuries.
  • Increased strength & endurance – You’ll get noticeable results fast.
  • Improved posture & core strength – Great for back pain prevention.

Do you personally follow EMS training? What results do you see?

Absolutely! I’ve been doing EMS training for over eight years here in NZ and before that, I was training in Germany. I usually do two sessions per week, the maximum recommended, alongside my yoga practice. With three studios, two kids and a busy schedule, EMS is a lifesaver for me. I never managed to define my core with conventional training when I was younger but with EMS, I have! The training doesn’t let you cheat or take shortcuts as the impulses do their job no matter what. At 40+, I know how important being active is and EMS training gives me the ability to live life on my terms - now and in the future.

If you could change one mindset about fitness, what would it be?

That fitness needs to be hard, time-consuming or a sacrifice. I deeply respect people who wake up early to squeeze in a workout before their kids wake up but the truth is, we’re in an era where technology allows us to train smarter, not harder. With fu/nis EMS, you can work out and have lunch during your break. Or leave the house 30 minutes earlier in the morning and be done for the day. Fitness should fit your life, not the other way around.

What’s the best way to get started?

We usually have a promotion for first-time clients so they can experience it for themselves so I'd suggest either pop in for a chat or click here to book your trial session. Trust me, you have to give it a go to truly understand its power!
