Over the past two decades, topical beauty products and specialized treatments aimed at visibly reducing the signs of aging have made significant strides. Yet there are still many misconceptions particularly around injectables and their ability to dramatically change lives.
Trust me when I say I know that sounds dramatic, but for those that suffer with excessive sweating for example, heading into summer can induce a nervous sweat so ferocious they’d need a change of clothes. Enter cosmetic injectables.
Sure, you know about anti-wrinkle injections or lip filler and yet for many, the thought of these treatments can conjure up images of frozen faces and trout pouts, but is that the reality of what’s going on inside the modern glossy beauty clinics in 2024? Absolutely not.
At the core of most of these treatments is the aim to look fresh, not frozen, and not to completely stop the signs of ageing, but to allow us to feel like we are doing it on our own terms – gently. Regardless, very few (if any at all) clinics would be willing to freeze your face beyond recognisable expression. Realistically, these treatments are being performed by highly skilled nurses, who are trained to know exactly what point to target to give you that fresh, wide-eyed, lifted brow, or simply reduce the depth of those wrinkles across your forehead, or banish that frown line you developed - thanks to stressful jobs or wrangling children, and ultimately help you feel like a younger, fresher version of yourself. And the options are broader than you might think.
Strategically placed anti-wrinkle injections can give a lift to eyebrows, relax an overworked muscle, reduce a gummy smile and smooth those fine lines and wrinkles – even helping to block the nerve impulses in the underarms directing the sweat glands to sweat, leaving you without the worry of damp patches in your favourite shirt.
Sandy Compain, Treatment Advisor at Caci Newmarket says “The forehead and frown line are always popular areas to treat as these areas tend to show wrinkles earlier than the rest of the face. Aside from reducing the appearance of wrinkles, it can also have an amazing effect on skin confidence – helping men and women feel amazing in their own skin and giving them newfound self-confidence.” And what about those damp patches on your fresh shirt?
Excessive sweating is not always related to heat or exercise, but it can absolutely cause social anxiety, can now be easily treated by that same well known injectable.
“Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes excessive sweating. Botox can be used to treat this condition by blocking the signals that cause the sweat glands to become overactive.” A lesser known but incredibly rewarding side effect for those sufferers.
For many years, dermal fillers seem to have received an undeservedly negative reputation, often associated with overdone lips, and unrecognisable celebrity makeovers. In reality, as we age, our bodies naturally lose volume, particularly in the face. The once-plump lips we enjoyed in our younger years become thinner, and areas under our eyes and near the temples can appear sunken or hollow. A small amount of dermal filler can work wonders to restore this lost volume or create volume where it was missing and can even work to reshape or add symmetry to the face.
For instance, fillers placed in the chin can balance, while those placed along the jawline can sculpt and define. Adding to the cheekbones can provide a subtle lift, and of course placement in the lips can restore lost volume, reduce the appearance of lip-line creasing or even reshape the lip line to create or enhance a cupid’s bow.
Most dermal fillers include hyaluronic acid, a powerhouse ingredient we know and love from our topical skincare for its ability to attract and retain moisture, but it also creates an instant plumping effect that will last around 6-12 months depending on the area that is treated and the type of filler you use.
Sandy at Caci Newmarket emphasized “Not all fillers contain hyaluronic acid, however the brands we use at Caci all do. Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in the skin and is responsible for hydrating, plumping, and contouring the treatment area. There is so much that can be done with dermal filler, from smoothing lines and folds to shaping the jawline, as well as volumizing.”
Relatively new to the injectables landscape is Profhilo, dubbed an ‘injectable moisturiser’. This hyaluronic acid-based treatment spreads over a broad area upon injection, delivering not only exceptional hydration to the skin, but actually stimulates the cells to produce collagen and elastin. It’s particularly effective for treating skin laxity on the face, neck and hands and gives new life to winkled, sagging or creepy skin. Think of it as an under-the-skin moisturising treatment, making it ideal for those already committed to a stringent skincare routine. Rather than adding volume like dermal filler, it contains a slow-release high concentration of HA and will continue to improve skin tone and hydration for up to six months – a pretty impressive innovation in the realm of beauty treatments, all with zero downtime.
“This treatment is really popular amongst our customers who are looking for something to support their skin treatments and existing skincare.” Sandy notes
“We are loving treatments that are biostimulators. A Bio-remodelling treatment such as Profhilo, an injectable option that aims to rejuvenate and stimulate collagen and elastin production, helps to improve skin tone, texture, lines, firmness of the skin and hydration. We offer Profhilo for the face, neck, chest and hands – it really is a gamechanger, especially when paired with strategically placed dermal filler too!.”
While many of us excel in our skincare routines, yet we often neglect key areas like our hands and neck, I’m sure I am not the only one who has never considered putting SPF on my hands or neck until far too late in the piece. Thankfully, treatments that repair and restore moisture from within offer a fantastic opportunity to those looking for a solution. While this treatment in particular isn’t going to fundamentally change the way you look, your skin will absolutely appear younger, fresher and plumper, helping you reconnect with that vibrant version of yourself you remember from ten years ago, all with minimal effort.
So, whether you are looking to smooth out some of those fine lines, enhance the volume or the shape of your lips, or target that creepy skin on your neck or decolletage, there’s a wide range of options available.
The beauty of injectables lies in their versatility; they can be as gentle and subtle as you wish, allowing you to achieve results that you feel comfortable with, and restore and unlock that skin-confidence.
