Security Incident in Newmarket

Statement from Mark Knoff-Thomas, Chief Executive, Newmarket Business Association

Today there was an incident in Newmarket where one of my team from Newmarket Security was involved in an altercation with a member of the public who was being pursued by the police. Our team member sustained serious injuries and has undergone surgery. We are happy to report he is now recovering well.

The Newmarket Security team is dedicated to keeping our community safe. It was formed with this purpose in mind - to ensure the protection of the precinct’s retailers, businesses and our customers so all visitors can safely enjoy the area.

I’d like to thank the rest of the Newmarket Security team, the New Zealand Police, Westfield Newmarket and Hato Hone St John for their quick actions when the incident occurred. 

The offender has been arrested and is in custody. There is no further threat to the area or members of the public.
