With the precinct's hospitality offering growing and going from strength to strength, Newmarket has welcomed a new eatery to Broadway.
Located in the state of the art Mercury building, Newbie's vibrant and eccentric interior has been created by Material Creative. The technicolour space is made up of detailed tiling, neon accents and dried floral arrangements that hang above the front counter.
Newbie's menu is made up the classic brunch staples, but with an added twist to keep things interesting when you don't really feel like an Eggs Bene. Owner Roger Liu, the mastermind behind Scout in Torbay and the widely-renowned Woolfy’s in East Tamaki, worked alongside Head Chef, Logan Wang (former sous chef at The Hunting Lodge and Pilkingtons) to create a menu that was simple, comforting and focused on flavour. The pair took a less is more approach to Newbie, by taking away some of the complexity but without removing the unique and eye-catching less was more, a mantra that saw the pair strip the complexity of the dishes back without taking anything away from their unique and photo-worthy presentation.
Alongside their eclectic menu, Newbie's cabinet offers an array of sweet and savoury treats. Be sure to grab one of their doughnuts on the way out, or a lamington, or a caramel slice... We can't quite decide which one is our favourite yet.
Kiwi artist Evie Kemp teamed up with the Newbie team to create bio-degradable packaging and unique artwork within the cafe.
