Pastarita is a modern Italian restaurant nestled on Teed Street. Open for lunch and dinner you’ll be stopped in your tracks by the heavenly smells wafting from the kitchen. Fresh pasta to bruschetta, freshly made salads and all the classics you know and love, this is one to add to you must-try list.
There is so much to love about authentic Italian pasta that is freshly made, and it’s just our luck that Nuffield Street has welcomed Arte della Pasta to its growing offering. With pasta recipes that have been passed down through generations, it’s safe to say that this is pasta you’ll keep coming back for. This pasta is handmade in house and it really doesn't get fresher than this. Top tip: don't pass up the opportunity to grab some Tiramisu to end your meal, you won't be disappointed!
A labour of love from well known restauranteur Crisci, L’Americano is your next best option to being in Italy this summer. If the sultry décor isn’t enough to lure you in from the mall, the menu will. For the early risers, L’Americano has a full pastry line-up to devour alongside an espresso for a simple yet decadent breakfast. Arrive after 11:30am and you’ll have the option to choose from a range of antipasti and main meal options. We can’t go past their burrata

It would be remiss of us to speak of Newmarket’s Italian food scene without mentioning Archie’s Pizzeria. This local hotspot packs out for lunch and dinner sittings daily, so we recommend booking, as here you will find some of Auckland’s best wood-fired pizza, if not THE best. The margarita pizza is phenomenal, as is the Al Salmone (pictured). If you aren’t into pizza then there is an extensive menu of pasta’s and salads which are equally as delicious and authentic.
As we venture into ice cream season it’s critical that you know just where to go when you’re craving the Italian kind of icy dessert. Island Gelato Company is perched on Westfield’s Rooftop dining precinct and is the perfect spot to curb those gelato cravings. Scooping everything from fruity sorbets through to vegan coconut chocolate, cone or cup and even take home containers available! Insider tip - try their Affogato, made with Allpress coffee and vanilla gelato... yes please.
Although this one isn't your typical Italian food joint, rather one of Newmarket's best coffee spots, it's all in the name! Not only is their coffee always on point but their cabinet food is very difficult to resist, as is their all day menu hosting options including Fried Chicken Waffles, their famous Avocado toast, and a Corned Pastrami Sandwich (don't knock it until you've tried it). For the days where caffeine just isn't quite strong enough, order yourself an Aperol or Campari Spritz - making your experience oh so much more Italian!
