Newmarket's best healthy food options

Reading Time: 3 Minutes

We love a pie and a pastry as much as the next person, especially when you have left your lunch on the bench for the third day in a row. But, when it comes to clean, green, healthy food on the go, we have rounded up some of the best plant-friendly spots and meals to try around the precinct.

The Kind Project - Chia Cup

Not only does this café serve up healthy, delicious salads, smoothies and raw treats, they also donate a portion of every sale to different charities! The cabinet is stocked every morning with an abundance of fresh, nutritious goodies, it’s hard to pick just one thing. We love the Chia Cup’s from The Kind Project, filled with chia seeds, raglan yoghurt, fresh fruits and granola- perfect for a hectic weekday morning breakfast on the go!

The Candy Shop - Vegan Bibimap

Even if you aren’t too familiar with Korean cuisine, we’d be hard pressed to find someone that that hadn’t eaten a bibimap or at least tried someone’s version of the popular dish. Typically made up of mixed rice, assorted meats and seasonal vegetables, this is Korean comfort food at its finest. To make things better, The Candy Shop have created their own version of the Bibimap and made it a little more plant-based friendly – made up of four grain rice, quinoa, tofu crumble, sautéed vegetables, shitake mushrooms, cracked nori tempura, sesame and gochujang.

Newbie – Always Green

Newmarket’s latest foodie obsession has taken the precinct by storm with their brunch and lunch offerings. Although Newbie are famed for their larger-than-life lamingtons, it’s their Always Green dish that piqued our interest. Although broccoli for lunch might sound bland to many, hear us out – tofu, quinoa, pea puree and a house made jalapeno dressing, this green goddess had gone straight to the top of our vegan lunch list, especially during that dreaded mid-winter shred.

Gilli Café – Power Salad

We know all too well that the goal of always bringing a home-made lunch to work is easier said than done. One of Carlton Gore Road’s most popular spots serves up an easy and healthy (not to mention delicious) salad that is sure to hit the spot come 12pm. Gilli Café’s Power Salad has all the trimmings and all the flavour - baby kale, tomatoes, mushroom, avocado and halloumi. We suggest adding an egg for that added protein following that lunchbreak workout.

Hello Mister – Mister Rolls

One of Newmarket’s most recent openings is none other than Auckland Vietnamese street food gurus – Hello Mister. Their arrival to Carlton Gore Road has provided many lunch-goers with fresh, healthy food that is always delicious. With popular winter warmers like Vietnamese Pho on offer, it’s the Mister Rolls that we always go for. The rolls are always fresh and authentic with a range of fillings to choose from - the tofu & beansprout roll is not to be missed.
