Karen Murrell x Make-A-Wish create a bespoke lipstick to surprise teen

18-year-old Kiwi Rachael Cox is just like most teenage girls her age, given that she’s incredibly fond of makeup. Make-A-Wish New Zealand worked with Karen Murrell to create Rachael's very own shade of lipstick.

Karen Murrell believe in natural all the way, from product to packaging, including using vegetable-based inks on sustainably sourced paper. Karen Murrells’ manufacturing process is cruelty free and they don't test on animals, ever. Karen Murrell lipsticks are made with avocado oil, evening primrose oil, candelilla, carnauba wax, cinnamon and sweet orange to treat your lips with every application.

Earlier this year Rachael and her mother Camilla flew to Melbourne to visit Karen Murrell’s natural lipstick production facility. The Langham Hotel Melbourne kindly paid for an overnight stay for Rachael and her mum. Karen Murrell natural lipsticks covered all other expenses.

Rachael believed she was simply visiting to see how lipstick was made, but the Karen Murrell team had something very special in store for Rachael, having been working behind the scenes with Make-A-Wish New Zealand for weeks. Rachael’s favourite colour had been pre-designed and Rachael was to watch the production process of her very own special edition lipstick.

The lipstick shade titled ‘Rachael’s Lipstick’ was then filled into Karen Murrell’s brand-new gold canister and even has her special new flower stencilled bullet.

Rachael’s favourite colour is a combination of purple and pink and the resulting lipstick shade is nothing short of perfect! “I really like the light purple, it has quite a cool pink undertone which makes it unique and fun” says Rachael.

The surprise didn’t end there, the limited-edition packaging of Rachael’s lipstick was also a complete surprise for Rachael and is in fact an illustration of herself with her favourite flowers.

The limited-edition lipstick will be sold via Karen Murrell online from August 8th at NZ $32.00 and all proceeds will be donated as a 50:50 split between Make-A-Wish New Zealand and Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand. This foundation being very close to Rachael and her family as Rachael suffers from Cystic Fibrosis.

Karen Murrell was honoured to work with Make-A-Wish New Zealand to make Rachael’s special wish a reality “I feel so grateful to be in a position to be able to work with charities to help make dreams like Rachael’s come true” says Karen Murrell. “This was truly such a special day and seeing the look on Rachael’s face when she realised what was really going on, was absolutely priceless and one that I will never forget”.
