The first pair of Dr. Martens boots rolled off the production line on the 1st April 1960. With its trademark yellow stitch, grooved sole and heel-loop, it was a boot for workers, initially worn by postmen and policemen; comfortable, durable and lightweight in comparison to its competitors at the time.
When it comes to brands that are embedded in pop culture, Dr. Martens is well and truly a global icon. For many decades the footwear has been championed by sub-cultures, with their main influence being based within the punk music era. Away from music, the brand is undoubtedly recognised worldwide for their uncompromising look, durability and comfort. Engineered from industry, championed through music and worn by individuals.
Matt Hapgood of Dr. Martens Retail Australia and New Zealand says of the new store launch: “Dr. Martens creates distinctive footwear built and adopted by generations of rebellious individuals not afraid to stand out from the crowd. We’ve come a long way; from modest work-wear boots to one of the most culturally relevant brands of the modern era.”
“Our arrival in NZ is very exciting and will allows us to connect with our loyal Kiwi Docs fans and provide them with a premium Dr. Martens shopping experience.” Mr Hapgood said.
The Dr. Martens store will offer the largest range of men’s, women’s and kids’ styles available in New Zealand including Originals, Made in England, full vegan ranges, global collaborations, and accessories collections.
Dr.Martens first New Zealand store will open in Westfield Newmarket on Thursday 21st November.
