How to spend the perfect 'date' in Newmarket

Reading Time: 4 Minutes

Planning a date with that special someone? From rooftop cocktails to bowling or ice cream sundaes, dinner and a movie, there are loads of date night options within the Newmarket precinct that will be sure to impress your other half.

GO FOR DINNER

With over 120 eateries in Newmarket, offering everything from authentic Thai to soul warming Italian, there is something for all tastebuds in the precinct. For an upmarket dining experience and decadent cuisine which is sure to impress, V.T Station or New York Grill are perfect options. Share a selection of traditional Spanish tapas with a glass of red at Tasca on Nuffield Street, or the traditional Alla Napolitana pizza from Archie’s Pizzeria on Davis Crescent. And for those who are into Mexican, we suggest trying out the latest addition to Westfield's rooftop Baha Betty - perfect if you're headed to the movies afterwards!

GO TO THE MOVIES

Newmarket is home to two fantastic cinemas – Event Cinemas, located on the rooftop of Westfield, and the legendary arthouse cinema, Rialto Cinemas, located at 167 – 169 Broadway. Visit their websites for information on session times and new releases.

GO FOR A DRINK

Whether you’re after a quiet wine for the two of you, or you are wanting to try the latest cocktail, there are a number of bars and restaurants for you to choose from.  From well known pubs The Claddagh and The Lumsden Freehouse, to the cocktail list at Something & Social or Sardine there are plenty of post-movie drink options.  Or if you’re after something a little less alcoholic, try one of the many milk teas on offer at Gong Cha.

GO GAMING

There’s nothing like a competitive game of bowling, dodgem car driving or virtual reality gaming at Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq to calm any first date nerves - plus, be sure to order one of their delicious cocktails from the bar!

GO FOR ICE CREAM

Even after an evening of eating and drinking, few people can resist an invitation for ice cream. Duck Island’s Osborne Lane scoop shop is another perfect date night option to end the night sweetly, or take away one of their tubs to enjoy at home! Visit Burger Burger’s ice cream bar, where you’ll find arguably the best Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich in Auckland or head to Movenpick on Broadway for a traditional waffle cone Caramelita.

GO TO FRANCE

Fancy sampling the very best of French vineyards right here in Newmarket?  Head to Maison Vauron for a regionally themed tasting evening or grab a bottle and share a cheese platter for two on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

GO FOR BRUNCH

Fancy yourself as more of a smashed avocado on whole grain toast kind of Romeo?  Head into Newmarket for brunch on a Saturday or Sunday morning where you’ll find plenty of cafes to grab the paper and a spot in the sun. We’re big fans of the French-kissed toast from Newbie, the Ricotta pancakes from Bambina or the classic mince on toast from L'affare . Check out our Sunday brunch post for a full run-down on the best breaky spots, here.

GO FOR A MASSAGE

Is there anything more relaxing than a massage? Head upstairs at 255 Broadway where you’ll find the calm oasis that is Bliss Reflexology & Massage and book you and your other half in for a Couples Massage.
