Celebrating 15 years of Eurostyle

Reading Time: 4 Minutes

Known for stocking an elaborate mix of menswear, and bold shirting options, Eurostyle is Newmarket's menswear go-to for both casual and formal dressing. Recently celebrating its 15 year anniversary, we caught up with owner Jacob Garhbait about the milestone and the brand...

N. Congratulations on celebrating 15 years of Eurostyle! Can you tell us a bit about more about Eurostyle?

Thank you! 15 years is a huge milestone for us. We are proud of this achievement and even prouder to have served our customers for all these years. We wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without the support and loyalty of our customers. It goes without saying that we are in the right spot with Newmarket being the fashion capital of New Zealand! Eurostyle is a fascinating blend of traditional retail and contemporary menswear. We’re not a minimalist shop with methodical places for jeans and neatly racked shirts. Instead we’re stocked more like a market bazaar; an eclectic mix of business wear, shirts, tops, jackets, shoes, accessories. But there is a reason for this – it allows our customers to explore new clothes, discover new combinations and leave with clothes that they will feel great about. Another unique aspect is the fact that we import our own brands into New Zealand direct from Europe. Every garment you see in our store is hand-picked and sourced directly by us.

N. How has New Zealand men’s fashion changed over the past 15 years?

We’ve seen menswear become more sophisticated over the years. We have definitely seen the standard rising as Kiwi’s travel more and more overseas for work and leisure. We believe this is a sign of the New Zealand’s continued prosperity where we see our customers seeking the best on offer and we are very happy to accommodate that.

N. Keeping up to date with trends, you regularly travel to Europe to source new seasons menswear. Do you have a favourite city to visit? If so, what is it about that city?

We travel to Europe four times a year to source new designs from our existing supplier base whilst keeping an eye out for new trends to bring the latest to our shores. We take the best from all our suppliers and each collection represents the best on offer. My favorite city would have to be Milan. Being the fashion capital, you can find inspiration just about anywhere.

N.Can you tell us about upcoming menswear trends for Spring/Summer 18?

The rigid book of fashion has been thrown away. This is reflected in the way that men mix and match their clothing. Sophisticated casual jackets and colorful trousers are very big in the coming season. Overall, versatility, sophistication and flexibility are important in garments today to match our busy life-styles.

N.What advice would you give to a man who was looking to invest in one key piece for his wardrobe?

I know you asked for one but I will give you two. A good pair of Alberto jeans from Germany and good pair of Italian dress shoes. These are the foundations for any look which can take you from the office during the day, to a restaurant in the evening.

N.Do you think that social media has had an impact on the way New Zealand men dress?

Absolutely. More than ever, men are exposed to international trends much faster so we definitely see men taking an increased interest in how they dress. These garments will take you just about anywhere!

N.Favourite place to get coffee in Newmarket?

It’s a tough choice given the great offering. I would have to go with Altezano on Kent Street.

N.What’s next on the horizon for Eurostyle?

To keep innovating and bringing the latest from Europe. We continue to invest in our core range in casual wear, shoes and suiting.
