Can you share a bit about your background and journey in the hair industry?

With over 24 years of experience in hairdressing, I began my journey at the renowned Servilles Academy, where I honed my skills and developed a passion for the craft. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working on numerous fashion shows, editorial shoots and have competed in industry events so I have definitely developed a unique skillset and knowledge of our beauty industry.

In addition to my hands-on work, I’ve always been passionate about sharing my knowledge, and have dedicated much of my time to training and mentoring other hairdressers. I spent many years managing a salon, training staff and building a loyal client base, which eventually led to the opening of M11 Studio eight years ago. While owning and running a business comes with its own challenges, my true passion has always been and will continue to be hair.

Could you give us a quick overview of the different Shark products and what they can each achieve?

Absolutely!

The Shark Flexstyle is a versatile hair tool that effortlessly transforms from a powerful, no-heat-damage hair dryer into a multi-styler. Designed for all hair types and skill levels, it allows you to curl, volumize, smooth, and dry hair. It comes with 6 attachments; Styling Concentrator, Curl-Defining Diffuser, Paddle Brush, Oval Brush, and 2x Auto-Wrap Curlers. The Shark FlexSyle caters to straight, wavy, curly, and coily hair, making it ideal for achieving various looks from bouncy smooth waves to smooth straight hair.

The Shark SmoothStyle Heated Comb Straightener + Smoother is designed to both straighten and smooth hair using heated comb technology, providing a healthy, voluminous finish. This tool uses less heat than traditional flat irons, protecting hair while delivering a professional blowout. The integrated heated comb ensures hair is dried, styled, and straightened without damage, maintaining natural shape and movement.

Then the last product we have been using in the salon is the Shark SpeedStyle RapidGloss Finisher & High-Velocity Dryer which delivers ultra-fast drying and high-gloss finishing without heat damage, ideal for all hair types. The lightweight dryer intelligently adjusts heat and airflow with five attachments using Ioniser technology which reduces frizz, creating a shiny, smooth frizz-free finish. The 5 attachments include the RapidGloss Finisher, QuickSmooth Brush, Turbo Concentrator, Express Touchup Brush and a DefrizzFast Diffuser.

For those with different hair types (curly, fine, thick), how can they best use Shark tools to suit their unique needs?

The Shark Styling Tools are made for all hair types, but to help you choose the right tool for you I've popped my recommendations below:

Wavy/Curly HairThe SmoothStyle is a great option. It dries and smooths hair quickly, delivering long-lasting, frizz-free results in no time. I recommend using the wet mode when your hair is 70% dry and then finishing with the dry mode.
Fine HairThe SpeedStyle is ideal for fine textured hair. It creates polished, smooth styles with added volume, and can even deliver a soft wave. The way the quick smooth brush is designed makes it easy to get right into the roots creating smooth effortless volume.
Thick or Coarse HairThe SmoothStyle is a great option. It dries and smooths hair quickly, delivering long-lasting, frizz-free results in no time. I recommend using the wet mode when your hair is 70% dry then finishing with the dry mode.
Frequent Travelers:The lightweight SpeedStyle dryer with its versatile attachments is great for those on the go. It helps create smooth, frizz-free looks, ideal for shaping bobs, flicking ends, and adding volume.

What are common mistakes people make when using styling tools, and how can they avoid them?

Skipping Heat Protectant - Not using a heat protector or the right styling product can damage your hair. Always apply a heat protectant before using any hot tool to prevent heat damage and ensure your style lasts!

Not Using the Cool Shot - For long-lasting results, it’s crucial to set your curls or waves with the cool shot after styling each section, the cool shot helps to lock in the shape and boost longevity.

Not Drying Hair Completely - Even if your hair feels dry it’s probably not, leaving a small amount of moisture can undo all your hard work. Make sure your hair is fully dry to avoid frizz and preserve your style.

Skipping Sectioning Clips - To get the best results, section your hair properly. Start at the bottom and work your way to the top, ensuring all roots and ends are evenly styled. Curling large sections can result in waves that fall out quickly. For tighter curls and longer-lasting waves, use smaller sections.

How can we achieve salon-quality hair at home?

To achieve salon-quality hair at home start by asking your hairstylist to recommend the right products and styling tool for your hair type and desired result. It's our job to educate our clients so don’t hesitate to ask your stylist. By using high-quality haircare and styling products, you will be sure to achieve salon-quality hair at home.
