Why do you love working in Newmarket?

Great central location and just the vibe of the place. Great cafes and shops are an added bonus.

What is one piece of advice that you would give to someone who was looking at starting out in your industry?

Attitude will take you further than anything and will be the key difference in your success and speed of progression for your career in accounting and finance.

What would you do if you weren’t in your current role?

Work as an Architect  - I’ve always loved great design and interesting buildings.

Name 3 people that you would invite to a dinner party (living or dead).

Covering off my 3 main interests - business, sport and inspirational leaders -  it would have to be Steve Jobs, Ritchie McCaw and Nelson Mandela.

What was your first job?

Working Saturdays at my parents local Mitre 10 hardware store from the age of about 11. My first real job was at a mid-tier accounting firm in the CBD working as a graduate accountant/auditor. While I didn’t fully appreciate it at the time, the training was fantastic and a large number of the staff have gone on to significant careers across a wide range of industries.

What motivates you?

A (challenging) goal.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

It’s pretty hard to beat Auckland but if I had to choose – the South of France in an old converted farmhouse enjoying the local food, wine and culture.

Where is your favourite place to get coffee or a drink in Newmarket?

Cali  - Nuffield St

You shouldn’t doubt your abilities and you should back yourself more.

How do you start each morning?

I try to get in a run on Milford beach most mornings followed by catching up on the daily news online while having breakfast with the kids.

What’s the best piece of advice that you’ve received?

Happiness is not a place you reach but a state you create.

What is your favourite holiday destination and why?

Hard to beat a Fijian island. Sun, sand, family and relaxation. There is something about Fiji that makes you just switch off and unwind the moment you arrive.

What is Newmarket’s best kept secret?

The Craft Beer selection at Liquorland Newmarket.

What would you consider to be your greatest achievement?

My two amazing kids – I learn something new from them every day.

Name one item that you can’t live without.

Morning latte (large takeaway, one sugar).

It’s 10am on a Sunday morning.  Where would we find you and what are you doing?

Walking down to the local café for brunch with the family.

Who has had the greatest influence on your life and why?

There is no one single person – I’ve been fortunate enough to have come in contact with some amazing, talented and wise people on my journey so far.

What is your greatest fear?

Not being able to be physically active.

What do you love most about your job?

I’m lucky that I work with an amazing team and with many great clients. Every day is different but relationships are paramount and this is the aspect I really value and enjoy. Clients see me as their sounding board in most facets of their business. Often the conversations and advice they seek cover topics far removed from accounting!
