Workshop | Hand Lettering with Kate Hursthouse – 2 Sessions | Thursday 18 & 25th August

In this 2 class series with leading artist and designer Kate Hursthouse you will be introduced to the world of hand lettering and calligraphy. You will learn the difference between calligraphy, lettering and typography through a series of exercises and demonstrations using a brush pen and a broad nib pen. We will begin with the fundamental elements of each letter, using calligraphic principles to create letters from a series of strokes.  We’ll explore experimental styles and other techniques, encouraging you to find your own unique style using tools such as a ruling pen, balsa and flat brush.

The second evening on the 25th August will be a continuation of the course and you will learn about composition, hierarchy, contrast, layout and proportions so you will leave the course with the skills to start creating your own unique lettering pieces.
