Q&A with Pip Larner and Liz Upton from Scarpa

Reading Time: 1 Minute

Long-standing family business, Scarpa opened its doors on Teed Street last month under the guidance of sisters Pip Larner and Liz Upton. We caught up with the pair about all things Scarpa and shoes…

N. When was Scarpa established?  Tell us a bit about the story behind the brand.
Scarpa was established 26 years ago in 1991, our parents John & Barbara Upton had run 2 successful shoe stores in Whangarei (Franklins and Uptons) and decided Auckland was missing beautiful European shoes.

N. How did it get its name?
Scarpa is the Italian word for shoe. Our family love the quality, feel, fit and heritage of Italian shoes.

When buying, we always keep in mind that our customers love beautiful shoes that are unique, exceptional quality, have a bit of a story to them and that look and feel amazing on.

Upcoming footwear trends we’re seeing include finer toes, kitten heels, pearl embellishments, slip on sneakers, faux fur, red, white, metallics and stars.

N. If you had to pick a favourite shoe and bag instore at the moment, what would they be?
We are just beginning to receive our Winter collection instore, but I adore the Stuart Weitzman SIMPLE NEW in red suede - the perfect minimalist sandal, heel height and such a great colour. I also love the Stella McCartney bags we have coming in.
